The next epic worldwide sports event is getting closer and the euphoria is starting to build up once again. Let’s look at the things you should know about the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

2021 has brought us unforgettable entertainment during the summer full of outstanding international football. However, as we’re entering 2022, the attention will focus on the newest World Cup that everyone’s waiting for.

The 2022 World Cup will be unique as instead of taking place in the summer months, it will take place in November and December 2022 instead.

When will the Qatar World Cup Take Place?

The 2022 World Cup will take place from November 21st to December 18th, 2022, in Qatar. The first match will start off on Monday, November 21 at the grand Al Bayt Stadium, where its architectural design is inspired by the traditional tents of the nomadic peoples of Qatar.

The stadium is located in Al Khor and will be enough to host around 60,000 spectators, including 1,000 seats for the press. Qatar, which is automatically qualified, will be the host country.

Why is The Tournament Taking Place in The Winter Months?

The 2022 World Cup takes place later in the year instead of the regular summer months to consider Qatar’s extreme heat conditions.

This upcoming tournament is the first World Cup that won’t take place during the traditional summer months due to the severe heat in the Middle East around June and July. These months are indeed the months when the World Cup usually takes place but won’t be happening due to temperature reasons.

Instead, the tournament will take place in the winter, during the significantly cooler season (even though air conditioning will be available in the stadiums).

In Qatar, the average summer temperature ranges from around 35C (95 Fahrenheit) to 45C (112F). However, the temperature can drop down to 16C (60F) to 24.5C (75F) during the winter.

Jerome Valcke, the former General Secretary of FIFA, stated that playing in Qatar is most favourable from mid-November to the end of December as the weather is nice and cool. He also added, “you’ll play in the weather that’s equivalent to a mildly hot spring in Europe, with a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, which is perfect for football.”

World Cup 2020: Which Teams Will Be in Qatar?

England has made it into the qualifications for the 2022 World Cup finals, with Wales and Scotland heading to the play-offs with some surprising names.

The European giants Italy and Portugal will also need to go through a few play-off matches in early 2022 due to their failure to win their respective groups.

The teams that made it into the World Cup so far are England, France, Belgium, Germany, Croatia, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

The winners of every group earned their place at the World Cup, along with the ten runners-up who will be joining the Nations League football teams in the play-offs. This is where three further places are still available.
