Football betting is one of the most popular kinds of sports betting, but it may be tricky if you're not familiar with some of its terms.

Indeed, football is probably the most straightforward sport ever. The team’s main objective is simply to kick the ball into the goal more times than the opponent. This also makes betting on football pretty straightforward, as well as you merely just bet on whoever scores the most goals.

However, regular betting on football requires a better understanding of the sport. There are tons of betting markets in football, including the Asian handicap, Over/Under Betting, Half Time/Full-Time betting and many more. In this article, we'll be focusing more on Each Way betting.

What is An Each Way Bet?

Each Way or E/W is a betting type that originates from Horse Racing, but you can also find this bet in football. It's a popular betting strategy that lets bettors select specific events and are likely to have many possible outcomes. There are two equal-sized bets in an each way bet, with one backing the win (win bet) with the other backing the selection of finishing high up or within the 'places' (place bet).

During each way bets in horse racing, the bets can occur when over four riders are in the racing field. The betting sites offer half (1.5), a third (1.3), a quarter (1.25), or a fifth (1.20) of the odds on the winning selections depending on the number of runners.

Each way betting in football is common during a league or tournament where you can easily determine 'places.' This includes the positions where clubs finish in a domestic league or on the finalists within the tournament. In other words, it's the winners and runner-ups of the competition. Every way betting is also available in other betting markets like the top goalscorer market.

Example of Each Way Betting

If you have a good feeling that Chelsea will be the champions or finish higher up in the Premier League, then we can employ each way of betting and even guarantee a winning bet.

Let's take Chelsea's odds to win the Premier League at 12.0. We may find the bookmakers offering 1.33 odds on a 1-2 finish and guarantee a winning profit with each way betting and provide Chelsea to finish first or second in the tournament.

$10.00 Each Way bet

$20.00 in total

Win Bet

$10.00 on Chelsea to win the Premier League at 12.00

If Chelsea wins the Premier League, the winning profit, including the stake, will be $120.00.

If Chelsea loses the Premier League, then the $10.00 is a lost bet.

Each Way Bet

$10.00 on Chelsea to finish first or second at 3.00 and the winning odds of 12.00.

This means that if Chelsea finishes either first or second, your profits, including the stake, should be $30.00.

But if the Blues doesn't finish either first or second, then the $10.00 is considered a losing bet.

Here, we can see that if Chelsea sits in the top two, then there's a guaranteed profit from each way betting as the $30.00 income from the selection adds up to more than the $20.00 that's staked, which means there's a guaranteed $10.00 profit. If Chelsea wins the league, then you'll win both bets with $150.00 returned from the staked $20.00 or the $130.00 total profit.

Now that you know the fundamentals of each way bet and how it works let's move on to each way, goalscorer.

Each Way Goal Scorer

In football betting, each way goalscorer involves two bets – where a player will score the game's first goal and if a player will score the second or third goal in a football game. This is referred to as an each way first scorer bet.

In this bet, you must place half of your stake on the standard first goalscorer bet. It's the bet for your chosen player who will score the game's first goal. The other half of your stake is for the same player who will score either the game's second or third goal.

All these results guarantee a return, but the first goal has more returns. The potential return for the second and third goals is usually about a quarter of the profit you can make from the first goal.

Example of Each Way Goalscorer Bet

Let's say you've staked $10 on a player in an each way goalscorer market; then the odds will look like this:

13.00 that the player will score the first goal on the game

4.00 odds for the player to score the second or third goal.

If your chosen player scores the first goal, in addition to either the second or third goal, then you'll receive $130 for the first section of your bet (winnings of $120 + the $10 refunded stake) and the $40 for the second part ($30 winnings + the refunded $10 stake). This adds up to $150 of winnings in total.

If your chosen player only scored the second or third goal of the game, then you'd get $50 in total from the $40 winnings and the $10 original stake. And if the player didn't score any of these goals, then you've lost the bet overall with your stake taken.
